Universal Analytics
Introduction
From 1 July 2023, data will no longer be processed with Universal Analytics.
Universal Analytics (UA) is the previous generation of Google Analytics and was the default property type for websites until 14 October 2020.
You need a UA account for the Analytics module. If you do not yet have one, you can sign up here.
Module configuration
Open the Analytics module mask in the administration under Modules – Google Analytics.
Please activate the module using the checkbox and then copy your Universal Analytics web property ID into it.
We also recommend that you activate the advanced e-commerce reports. These show detailed purchasing behaviour, product and sales performance. This function must also be activated in Universal Analytics. To do this, go to Administration – Data View – E-Commerce Settings in the UA interface and activate ‘Activate E-Commerce’ and ‘Activate Advanced E-Commerce Reports’.
In the EU, it is also mandatory to anonymise IP addresses. Please tick this checkbox in the Analytics module if you operate in the EU.
You can now save the settings. The Analytics module is now set up and sending data to Universal Analytics.
Create a funnel display for the order process
With the help of a funnel, you can analyse the bounce rate in your order process in detail and take targeted measures, for example, for payment options. To do this, simply create a conversion goal with several steps.
In the UA interface, go to Administration – Data View – Goal Action:
Press ‘New goal’ and select ‘Custom’ when setting up the goal.
Goal description
Give the goal a name and select the type. If you want to work with the page views from our list, select ‘Goal’.
Target details
The goal is to complete the order. Therefore, you can specify ‘/shop/checkout/ViewOrderSuccess’ as the ‘equal to’ page.
If necessary, you can assign a value to the goal.
To do this, activate the funnel and configure the steps as shown in Figure 3.
After saving the new target project, you will see the defined funnel for the order process under Conversion - Target Project - Funnel Visualisation.
It takes one day for the data to appear in the funnel. We recommend that you make a test purchase and check the next day at UA to see if your order has been correctly entered in the funnel.
