cPanel Two-Factor Authentication

Inhaltsverzeichnis

Introduction

Security is a central aspect of operating your hosting account. In this guide, you will learn how to set up two-factor authentication (2FA) for your cPanel access. 2FA provides additional protection for your account: even if your password falls into the wrong hands, access remains denied without the second security feature.

Benefits of 2FA

  • Increased Protection: Makes unauthorized access to your hosting significantly more difficult.
  • Prevention: Effective protection against brute-force attacks and stolen credentials.
  • Simplicity: Quick generation of codes via a smartphone app.

Configuration of 2FA

Requirements to Start

What is needed?

  • A smartphone with an authentication app installed (e.g., Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator).
  • Your cPanel credentials (username and password).

Step 1: Access 2FA Management in cPanel

First, you need to find the corresponding section in your hosting panel.

  1. Log in to your cPanel.
  2. Navigate to the “Security” section.
  3. Click on the “Two-Factor Authentication” menu item.

Step 2: Start the Setup

After opening the module, prepare the link.

  1. Click the “Set Up Two-Factor Authentication” button.
  2. A QR code will now appear on your screen, along with a security key.

Now use your smartphone to authorize the connection.

  1. Open your authentication app on your smartphone.
  2. Select the function in the app to add a new account (usually a “+” symbol).
  3. Scan the QR code displayed in cPanel.

Step 4: Confirm Setup

To complete the process, the synchronicity must be confirmed once.

  1. The app now continuously generates a 6-digit numeric code.
  2. Enter this current code in the “Security Code” field in cPanel.
  3. Click the “Configure Two-Factor Authentication” button.

Login Procedure

From now on, you will be asked for the security code in addition to your password every time you log in. Simply open your app on your smartphone and enter the 6-digit code displayed there.

Smartphone Change or Loss

If you get a new smartphone, you must first deactivate 2FA in cPanel using the old device and then set it up again with the new device. If you no longer have access to your device, please contact our support.
