What is a GARAN label?

If a manufacturer offers a free commercial durability guarantee of more than two years for a product that covers the entire product, the harmonised GARAN label is required from 27 September 2026. The GARAN label is standardised across the EU and must be used in the prescribed form. Retailers who sell such products to consumers in the EU must display this label clearly and visibly.

With the “Guarantee label” module, you can easily manage GARAN labels and display them to your EU customers for the relevant products. This guide explains how to set up and use the module.

Requirements for the GARAN label

The GARAN label indicates a free commercial durability guarantee from the manufacturer. It must be used when the guarantee:

  • is granted free of charge,
  • covers the entire product, and
  • is valid for more than two years.

With the GARAN label, the manufacturer confirms that the product will retain its functions and performance under normal use for the stated guarantee period. Otherwise, the manufacturer must repair or replace the product free of charge.

As a retailer, you are required to display the GARAN label clearly and visibly for the relevant products so that consumers can recognise the manufacturer’s commercial durability guarantee at a glance.

Design of the GARAN label

The GARAN label has an EU-wide prescribed design and must be used in the specified form. The following information must be added:

  • the duration of the durability guarantee (in years),
  • the brand or trademark of the manufacturer,
  • the model identifier of the product, so that consumers can recognise which goods the durability guarantee applies to. For example, the model number or the article or model designation.

With the “Guarantee label” module, you enter this information in PepperShop with just a few clicks. The GARAN label is then generated automatically according to EU requirements and displayed for the relevant articles.

Configuring the Guarantee label module

Requirements to get started

Step 1: Install the module

  1. In the PepperShop administration, navigate to “Modules” → “Module management”.

  2. Check whether the “Guarantee label” module is already installed.

    1. If yes, click the module and go to step 2.
    2. If no, continue reading.

  3. In the “Modules not yet installed” section, select the “Guarantee label” module.

  4. Click “Install”.

  5. Then click “Manage module”.

Step 2: Activate the module

  1. You are now in the settings of the “Guarantee label” module.
  2. Enable the “Activation” checkbox.
  3. Save your changes.

Entering guarantee labels for multiple articles

  1. In the PepperShop administration, navigate to “Assortment” → “Mass mutations”.

  2. Click the “Guarantee label” tile.

  3. Select the articles you want to edit:

    • Option A: Search for an article using the quick search.
    • Option B: Select a category.

  4. Enter the guarantee duration in years for the top article.

    • Optionally, you can apply the guarantee duration to all displayed articles. To do so, click “Apply to all” and then “Apply”. Please note that existing values will be overwritten.

  5. Enter the brand or trademark of the manufacturer granting the guarantee.

    • Optionally, you can apply this value to all displayed articles. To do so, click “Apply to all” and then “Apply”. Please note that existing values will be overwritten.

  6. Enter the model identifier. For example, the model number or the article or model designation.

  7. Enter the details for all other articles that require a GARAN label.

  8. Save your changes.

Once the details have been saved, the GARAN labels are visible on the articles.

Entering a guarantee label for a single article

When you create a new article or edit an existing one, you can also enter the GARAN label.

  1. Edit an existing article or create a new article.
  2. In the “General” tab, scroll to the “Guarantee label” section.
  3. Enter the guarantee duration, the brand or trademark, and the model identifier (for example, the model number or the article or model designation).
  4. Save your changes.

Once all required details have been saved, the GARAN label for this article is displayed automatically.

Display for EU customers

  1. If a customer logs into their customer account with a delivery address in the EU, or enters a delivery address in the EU during the order process, PepperShop recognises them as an EU customer.

  2. For EU customers, a compact display of the GARAN label is shown automatically for all affected articles. This applies to the article detail page, the shopping cart and the order overview.

  3. By clicking the GARAN label, the customer can open the full display of the label.

  4. After completing the order, the customer receives an order confirmation by e-mail. This contains the compact display of the GARAN label in the e-mail text as well as the full GARAN label as an attachment.
