Introduction

Google Search Console is a free analysis tool that supports website owners with search engine optimization (SEO). This tool is necessary for your online shop to be indexed by Google faster and to appear in search results.

To do this, you must submit your online shop’s sitemap to Google Search Console. This is also required if you have switched your online shop to PepperShop.

In this guide, you will learn how to create a Google Search Console account, verify ownership, and submit your sitemap.

Setting up Google Search Console

First, you need to create a Search Console account here. To do this, you need to have a Google account.

Confirming website ownership

After successfully registering with Google Search Console, you can use ‘Add property’ to create a data view for your online shop.

Property Typ Domain

Property Type Domain

If your online shop runs on a main domain, for example ‘example.com’, then you can select the property type Domain. After entering your domain, you can click on next.

Now copy the TXT record and send it to support@glarotech.ch. We will insert the code into the DNS configuration for you.

Property Type URL prefix

For a subdomain such as ‘shop.example.com’ or for a redirect to ‘www’, select URL prefix, enter your online store URL and click Next.

Next, you need to confirm ownership of the website. The easiest way to do this is to select the HTML tag.

Figure 4: Confirm ownership via HTML tag

Simply copy the given code snippet and paste it into the header of the HTML document.

To do this, go to PepperShop Administration → “Settings” →"Languages” → “Header Variables” (e.g. Meta Tags) and copy the HTML tag into it.

After saving the HTML tag, you can now confirm the website in Google Search Console.

Submit sitemap

A sitemap is a search engine tool and helps search engines to find your website or shop.

PepperShop automatically creates a sitemap of your complete online shop. You can find the generation of the sitemap of your PepperShop under “Article” → “Mass mutations” → “Search engine optimisation” → “Generate sitemap”.

Now you can copy the link and paste it into the Google Search Console under Sitemaps.

Set up Redirects (for online shops switching to PepperShop)

If you switch from another shop system to PepperShop, the internet addresses (URLs) of your subpages usually change. Since Google needs time to learn the new addresses, you must set up redirects. This way, visitors are automatically guided to the correct new page and you retain your ranking.

In PepperShop Administration, you can enter redirects manually under: “Content” → “Redirects”

Too many subpages?

Depending on how many subpages your old online shop had, manual entry can be very time-consuming. That is why we offer a service to take over this task for you.
