Introduction

This guide will tell you everything you need to know to get started with PepperShop. More detailed instructions are linked in the relevant chapters, where available.

Shop administration

In the shop administration area, you can manage and customise your online shop.

You will receive an email from us with a link to the administration area, your user name and password.

You can also access the administration area by adding “/shop/Admin/” to the end of your shop’s URL. For example, the administration page for “https://tolle-schuhe.peppershoptest.ch/" is “https://tolle-schuhe.peppershoptest.ch/shop/Admin/". Please note the capitalisation of “Admin”.

Overview

The shop administration is structured as follows:

  1. PepperShop administration navigation
  2. Input field for searching the navigation
  3. Expand and collapse navigation
  4. Switch to the customer page
  5. Help for the current page content
  6. Change language

Set language

PepperShop offers the following languages in the administration and on the customer page:

  • German
  • English
  • French
  • Italian
  • Romansh

The languages must be installed once. This can be done in the shop administration under “Settings” → “Languages”. You can then change the language in the top right corner of the administration and customer pages. You can set the default language for the administration and customer pages and activate and deactivate individual languages. Under “Display of the language selection menu”, you can set how the language selection should appear on the customer side.

Create categories

  1. Start in the shop administration.
  2. Click on “Categories” in the navigation bar.
  3. Click on “New”.
  4. Use the arrows to select where the category should be placed.
  5. Fill out the form. The category name is a mandatory field.

Further information on the topic of “Categories” can be found here.

Create Products

  1. Start in the shop administration.
  2. Click on “Assortment” → “Products” in the navigation.
  3. Click on “New”.
  4. Fill out the form. The following fields are mandatory:
  • “Name”
  • “Price”
  1. In the “Category assignment” field, select the category to which the article should be assigned. It is also possible to assign multiple categories to each article.

Further information on “Creating/editing items” can be found here.

Switch to the customer page

Would you like to see what your online shop looks like to your customers? Then click on the shopping cart icon in the shop administration.

The email containing your login details also contains a link to the customer view.

Our recommendation: Open the customer page in a new tab. This makes it easier to switch between the customer page and the administration. If you make a change in the administration, you only need to reload the customer page to see the changes.

Make a test purchase

  1. Click on the shopping cart icon in the shop administration. You are now on the customer page of the shop.
  2. Browse the online shop and add an item to your shopping cart.
  3. Proceed to checkout and fill out the forms.
  4. Click “Buy”.

The next section explains how you can view the orders in the shop administration.

View orders

You can view orders in three different ways:

  • The most recent purchases appear on the start page of the shop administration, also known as the “Dashboard”.
  • You can find the “Dashboard” by clicking on the PepperShop logo in the top left corner.
  • You can find all orders under “Customers/Orders” → “Orders”.
  • You will also receive an email with the order details for each order.

For more information on “Processing orders”, click here.

Things to consider before ordering an online shop

Do you already have an existing website that you would like to add an online shop to?

Yes

If you already have a website, you can add a PepperShop online shop to it. For example, if your website is called “great-shoes.co.uk”, your shop will be accessible at “shop.great-shoes.co.uk”.

No → Reserve your domain early

Before you sign up for a PepperShop subscription and go live with your online shop, you need a domain where your customers can find you.

The domain is the unique address of a website, such as “great-shoes.co.uk”. It is advisable to reserve a domain as early as possible, as it can only be assigned once and will then no longer be available.

You can reserve the domain through us when ordering your PepperShop and see immediately whether the domain is still available. Or you can reserve the domain through another provider.

Note: We are not legal advisors and accept no liability. For legal advice, we recommend that you consult a solicitor.

Imprint

In Switzerland, an imprint obligation similar to the German provider identification obligation has been in force since 1 April 2012. In PepperShop, the imprint is linked in the footer and visible on every page by default. The contact details and address from the general settings are automatically transferred and displayed in the imprint. The imprint must be supplemented by the shop owners in accordance with the legal requirements of their country.

To make changes or additions to the legal notice, open “Content” → “Pages” → “Legal notice” in the shop administration and click on the blue pencil icon.

It is important that you transfer the data from the commercial register entry. You can also enter information such as your company number in the commercial register, VAT ID and VAT number. It is best to also include the details of the managing directors in the legal notice. Please find out what requirements apply in your country.

Further information can be found here.

General Terms and Conditions (GTC)

Where: “Shop administration” → “Settings” → “General” → “Customer information / Cancellation / Terms and conditions”

In Switzerland, there is no legal obligation to use general terms and conditions (GTC). Nevertheless, GTC are advantageous, especially in online and mail order business, as there is a high need for regulation in this area.

PepperShop provides you with a template for your terms and conditions. Please read it carefully and adapt the text if necessary. We recommend that you include at least the place of jurisdiction and cancellation policy in your terms and conditions.

Companies that also serve customers in Germany should also include the cancellation policy required under German law and the corresponding model cancellation form in their terms and conditions.

You can customise the terms and conditions in the shop administration under “Settings” → “General” → “Customer information / Cancellation / Terms and conditions” → “Edit terms and conditions”.

Further information can be found here.

Data protection / privacy policy

Where: “Shop administration” → “Settings” → “General” → “Customer information / Cancellation / Terms and conditions”

The Swiss Data Protection Act (CH-DSG) and the European General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR) protect personal data and regulate how it is handled. For online shops, this means that they must comply with legal requirements when collecting, storing and processing customer data in order to ensure the privacy of users.

When you are affected:

  • CH-DSG:

  • You have a branch, subsidiary or affiliate in Switzerland

  • You process personal data via a Swiss company

  • You deliberately offer services to persons residing in Switzerland

  • You observe the behaviour of Swiss persons.

  • EU GDPR:

  • You have a branch, subsidiary or affiliate in the EU

  • You process personal data via an EU company

  • You deliberately offer services to persons residing in the EU

  • You observe the behaviour of EU persons.

*Google Analytics and similar tracking tools are the main focus here.

If you are affected, there are now a few points you must comply with. You can find more information on this here.

Company headquarters/delivery address in Germany

If you are based in Germany or supply the German market, your e-commerce system must also comply with the legal requirements applicable in the target market. Instructions on how to configure your shop for Germany can be found here.
