Introduction

These instructions will tell you everything you need to know to get started quickly with PepperShop. More detailed instructions, if available, are linked to the respective chapters.

Shop administration

You can manage and customise your online shop in the shop administration.

You will receive an e-mail from us with a link to the administration, user name and password.

By the way, you can also access the administration if you write “/shop/Admin/” after the URL of your shop. From “https://tolle-schuhe.peppershoptest.ch/", for example, the administration is “https://tolle-schuhe.peppershoptest.ch/shop/Admin/". Please note that “Admin” is capitalised.

Overview

The shop administration is structured as follows:

  1. navigation of the PepperShop administration
  2. input field to search the navigation
  3. collapse and expand navigation
  4. switch to the customer page
  5. help for the current page content
  6. change language
  7. live chat with our support (only available in the trial version)

Set language

Where: “Shop administration” → “Settings” → “Languages “

PepperShop has the following languages in the administration and on the customer side

  • German
  • English, German
  • French, German
  • Italian
  • Romansh

The languages must be installed once. You can then change the language in the administration and on the customer page in the top right-hand corner. You can set the default language for the administration and customer page and activate and deactivate languages individually. Under “Type of the language selection menu:", you can set how the language selection should look on the customer side.

Create categories

  2. click on “Categories” in the navigation.
  3. click on “New category”.
  4. fill out the form. Mandatory fields are:
    • “Name”
    • “Category” (→ Where in the order should the category be categorised?)

You can find more information about “Categories” here.

Create article

You can find further information on the subject of “Adding / editing items” here.

Switch to the customer page

Do you want to see what your online shop looks like for your customers? Then click on the shopping basket symbol in the shop administration.

You will also find a link to the customer view in the e-mail with the access data.

Our recommendation: Open the customer page in a new tab to make it easier for you to switch back and forth between the customer page and the administration. If you make a change in the administration, you only need to reload the customer page to see the changes.

Make a test purchase

  1. click on the shopping basket symbol in the shop administration. You are now on the customer page of the shop.
  2. browse the online shop and add an item to the shopping basket.
  3. go to the checkout and fill in the forms.
  4. click “Buy”.
  5. continue reading under “Viewing orders”.

Viewing orders

You can view orders in three different ways:

  • The latest purchases appear on the shop administration start page, also known as the dashboard.
    • You can find the dashboard by clicking on the PepperShop logo at the top left.
  • You will find all orders under “Customers/Orders” → “Customer management”.
  • You will also receive an email with the order details with every order.

You can find more information on the topic of “Processing orders” here.

Please note before ordering an online shop

Do you already have an existing website that you would like to add an online shop to?

Yes

If you already have a website, you can add a PepperShop online shop to it. For example, if your website is called “tolle-schuhe.ch”, your shop can be reached at “shop.tolle-schuhe.ch”.

No → Reserve your domain early

Before you take out a PepperShop subscription and go live with your online shop, you need a domain where your customers can find you.

The domain is the unique address of a website, such as “tolle-schuhe.ch”. It is advisable to reserve a domain as early as possible, as it is only allocated once and is then no longer available.

You can reserve the domain through us when you order your PepperShop and see immediately whether the domain is still available. Or you can reserve the domain through another provider.

Note: We are not legal advisors and accept no liability whatsoever. For legal advice, we recommend that you consult a lawyer.

Imprint

Where: “Shop-Administration” → “Contents” → “Pages” → Here you will find “Imprint” in the list → to edit, click on the pencil symbol.

In Switzerland, an imprint obligation has been in force since 1 April 2012, similar to the German provider identification obligation. At PepperShop, the legal notice is visibly linked in the footer of every page as standard. The contact details and address from the general settings are automatically transferred and displayed in the legal notice. The legal notice must be completed by the shop owner in accordance with the legal requirements of their country:

“Shop administration” → “Content” → “Pages” → Here you will find “Imprint” in the list → click on pencil icon to edit.

It is important that you copy the data from the commercial register entry. You can also enter details such as the company number in the commercial register, VAT number and UID. Details of the managing directors are also best stored under the legal notice. Please find out which requirements apply in your country.

Further information can be found here.

General Terms and Conditions (AGB)

Where: “Shop administration” → “Settings” → “General information” → “Customer information / Cancellation / Customer information / Cancellation / General Terms and Conditions”

In Switzerland, there is no legal obligation to use General Terms and Conditions (GTC). Nevertheless, GTCs are advantageous, especially in online and mail order business, as there is a high need for regulation here.

PepperShop provides you with a GTC template. Please read these carefully and adapt the text if necessary. We recommend at least regulating the place of jurisdiction and cancellation in the GTC.

Companies that also serve customers in Germany should also include the cancellation policy required by German law and the corresponding sample cancellation form in their GTC.

How to customise the GTC:

“Shop administration” → “Settings” → “General information” → “Customer information / Cancellation / General Terms and Conditions” → click on " Edit terms and conditions” under “General terms and conditions”.

Further information can be found here.

Data protection / privacy policy

Where: “Shop administration” → “Settings” → “General information” → “Customer information / Cancellation / Customer information / Cancellation / General Terms and Conditions”

The Swiss Data Protection Act (CH-DSG) and the European General Data Protection Regulation (EU-GDPR) protect personal data and regulate how it is handled. For online shops, this means that they must comply with legal requirements when collecting, storing and processing customer data in order to guarantee the privacy of users.

When you are affected:

  • CH-DSG:
    • You have a branch, branch office or subsidiary in Switzerland
    • You process personal data via a Swiss company
    • You deliberately offer services to persons resident in Switzerland
    • You monitor the behaviour of Swiss persons*.
  • EU GDPR:
    • You have an establishment, branch or subsidiary in the EU
    • You process personal data via an EU company
    • You deliberately offer services to persons residing in the EU
    • You monitor the behaviour of EU persons*.

*Google Analytics and similar tracking tools are in the foreground here.

If you are affected, there are now a few points that you must comply with. You can find more information on this here.

Company headquarters / delivery address Germany

If you are based in Germany or supply the German market, your e-commerce system must also fulfil the legal requirements applicable in the target market. You can find instructions on how to configure your shop for Germany here.
