Article Filter
Introduction
Your customers want to quickly find the products they are looking for. With the additional module ‘article filter’ you can create filters and assign the search criteria to your articles. Make it easier for your customers to search in your online shop.
Introduce new filter
You will find the item filter module in your shop administration under Modules. With the help of the Setup Wizard, you can create your own filter in no time at all. Click +Add New Filter to start.
The Setup Wizard
The Setup Wizard will help you create your filters.
As an example, let’s assume that you sell CDs and are creating a filter with various music genres for your recordings.
To create the filter, do the following in the help Wizard:
Insert the following data:
-
Name of the filter DE: Here you enter the property by which your customers can then filter. In our example, that would be Music Genre
-
Group: The group entered here will later be required for the internal assignment of the characteristics (e.g. blues, jazz, classical, etc.). In our example we select CD. This value is not displayed in your online shop.
-
Input Type: Choose whether the characteristics should be entered as text (e.g. blues, jazz, classical, etc.), integer (2, 5, 10, etc.), floating point number (3.5, 2.7, 6.8, etc.) or as Yes/No value (checkbox). In our example, the characteristics are text (blues, jazz, classical, etc.). Whole numbers are used, for example, in the age classification of DVDs. This enables the customer to filter movies by age restriction (0, 6, 12, 16, 18).
-
Filter type: Here you can choose between the different views. Standard, slider, table or color selection. Note that not all filter types are suitable for all input types.
-
Display for item: If this field is active, the properties are also displayed with the item.
Now click Next to finish the filter.
To now assign the characteristics (Blues, Jazz, Classical, etc.) for your articles, click on Article characteristics. Alternatively, you can also create another filter directly or close the Help Wizard.
Item specifics
In this mask you define the characteristics per article.
- Mode: Features as per feature definition
- Feature: Select the group (in this case CDs) for which you want to assign the features
- Click on “New Item Feature” to create a new feature for an item
- Save the filter with Click on save and update article filter
- The filter has now been created and the characteristics assigned to the corresponding articles
Feature definitions
In this mask, feature definitions are created manually and assigned to a corresponding group. If we go back to our example with CD sales, another filter (characteristic definition) could be e.g. the year of publication.
Filter templates
Here you have the option of creating different filter templates.
- Internal name: Give your filter template an internal name, which will not be displayed to customers in your online shop
- Filter Type: Currently there is only one default type.
- Scrollable from number of Values: Define from how many item specifics the filter should be scrollable.
- Default display: Define whether the filter with this filter template should be displayed as expanded or collapsed as standard
Article filter
Assign the existing characteristics to a corresponding filter template here. There are the following templates:
- Default colour selection
- Default slider selection
- Default selection
- Standard table selection
Configuration
- Activation: The article filter module is active immediately after installation. If this checkbox is deactivated, the module is no longer available and the filters are no longer displayed in the online shop.
- Automatic filter based on article characteristics: if filtering should be automatic according to characteristics
- Show active filters as an additional block: if active filters are to be displayed in a separate block
- Use filters in virtual promo category: Filters are also displayed in the virtual promo category (must be set up in category management).
- Use filter in virtual promotions category: Filters are also displayed in the virtual pronmotions category (must be set up in category management).
- Also use filters for higher-level categories: Filters are also displayed for higher-level categories
- Use price slider: if a slider is to be displayed, where the price can be set
- Use “Item in stock” filter: to filter by whether an item is in stock or not
- Search field for standard filter: Display a field within which a certain number of selection options can be searched
- Filter position: Choose where in your online shop you want the filters to be displayed
- Filter default display: Decide whether the filter should be displayed collapsed or expanded by default
- Show filter from which level: Decide from which category level the filter should be displayed
- Handling features without an assigned filter template: How should features be handled that have no filter template
- Default template: Define a default template for your filters
- Management of the colors for the color filter: If you have activated the color filter, you can make the settings here
